Of Mohawks and Men

I would have done this sooner if I had known how much fun it was going to be. About ten years ago I used to have a ponytail, as in “pony-tailed software geek” and “longhair biker.” The ponytail disappeared in 2004 with a bit of reasonable self-consideration. You are not allowed to have alcohol in [...]

The Rt. Rev. Nedi Rivera immediately following her consecration

After reading a tweet and reading the page to which it linked, and watching the First Follower: Leadership Lessons from Dancing Guy video, I was reminded of a time when I was Number 2. And, how important it is to be Number 2. To understand this post, you need to know that I cannot dance. [...]

I've been assimilated

As a person that has worked primarily as a temporary, contractor, or consultant since 1990, I have been around the block. Good companies and bad companies. Challenging tasks (requiring skill and creativity) and impossible tasks (which only takes longer). Great memories and memories I can’t forget. This past week I’ve done something new. I [...]

US Flag

Officially, the US is very clear that Veterans Day is not Remembrance Day. We have Memorial Day to remember the fallen. Today is the day to remember the sacrifice of all veterans in time of war. My father, a disabled veteran, won’t talk about everything he saw in Korea. I understand there are some pictures [...]

I’ve been procrastinating. Well, kind of. But, not any more. My relationship with Yahoo as a hosting provider goes back to when they purchased GeoCities (where all good geeks first established their websites in the 1990s). There was a certain simplicity with just leaving things as they were. I can pound HTML. With a text [...]

This isn’t self-revelation. This is three stories of how others perceived me. One of these stories goes back to when I was in college. One of the reasons I live hereOriginally uploaded by rrchapman The snow yesterday had one silver lining. Well, maybe a pink lining would be more accurate. This is looking to the northeast from my living room at the Cascade Mountains. The sun is setting in the west, as is its custom. The brilliant color was [...]

Remember that you are dust, and unto dust you shall return. There would have been a time many of you would have recognized those words. They are the words spoken as a cross of ashes is placed on your forehead at an Ash Wednesday service. Today, Fat Tuesday is what people recognize. Any penitence associated [...]

Like many other local motorcycle riders, I don’t winterize my Honda VTX. The reason? I am able to ride year ’round. That is, I can ride 12 months per year, but not 52 weeks. There is a reason for not being able to ride 52 weeks. This year the reason was a little more of [...]

A few years ago, I was talking with a local Episcopal priest about Louis Crew. Rather than the usual subjects one could or would discuss about Lutibelle (his nom de drag), the discussion was about the quantity found on his website. This priest, whose identity I will protect, said something like, “There is nothing he [...]
